Happy #FabricFriday friends! Gosh, it feels like an awful long time since I last wrote that, but boy do I have a corker to share with you today!
I pounced lightning fast on this electric-blue beauty when I saw her in a local vintage shop. At first I was drawn to the unusual floral print and stunning colour, which is so incredibly vibrant considering it's likely to be from the 1950s, but then I touched it and fell even deeper in love. This is no ordinary electric-blue beauty...she's a luxurious wool crepe and she knows it! You can see her in action over on Instagram, where I tried to capture the sensuous way she drapes.
Needless to say, I'm head over heels. But I'm also terrified of the
prospect of cutting into her. Like, truly terrified! I think I'm
going to hang on to her until I find the perfect pattern and until I feel my sewing skills are worthy of her.
In the meantime it's fun to daydream, so tell me, what would you make with this exquisite fabric?
Oooh that is gorgeous!! I think I would make something that would really let the fabric shine - like a shift dress - either a loose one like the colette Laurel, or something more fitted, like the new Sew Over It Joan! (which I am going to buy this weekend!!).
ReplyDeleteOh yes I agree, a shift dress:)
ReplyDeleteHoly cow, Marie, this is beautiful!
ReplyDeletePS: How about a Francoise dress??
ReplyDeleteLove it. How much yardage do you have?
ReplyDeleteI agree, this would look amazing as a shift dress. It was a popular style in the 60s, so very appropriate for the fabric.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a shift dress. It would show off the fabric, and it fits with the time period.
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing and will look equally amazing on you Marie!
ReplyDeleteMy vote is a shift dress too, maybe with 3/4 sleeves. I think it is fun to dream for a while before taking the plunge!
Gorgeous fabric, I would make a dress with a half circle skirt to show off the drape of the fabric like Butterick 4443 or V 8873, good luck! Lorrain.
